How we create a lifelike sculpture of your German shepherd
Why get a German Shepherd sculpture?
German Shepherds are famous for their intelligence. They are self-assured, willing to learn and an eager to have a purpose and make capable working dog. They are curious, which makes them excellent guard dogs and suitable for search missions. They are obedient, as well as being protective of their owners.
Their devotion and courage are unmatched. They are amazingly versatile, excelling at almost anything they are trained to do. After all they do have a reputation for excelling in guide and assistance work for the disabled, police and military service, herding, search and rescue, drug detection and competitive obedience. They make wonderful, faithful companions.
Are you wondering whether you could get a German Shepherd miniature of your dog to display? The point of a figurine is that it will immortalise your dog forever.
What should my German Shepherd sculpture be like?
German Shepherds have a domed forehead, a long square-cut muzzle with strong jaws and a black nose. The eyes are medium-sized and brown with a lively, intelligent and self-assured look. The ears are large and stand erect, open at the front and parallel. The tail is bushy and reaches to the hock.
Most commonly, German Shepherds are either tan/black or red/black. Most colour varieties have black masks and black body markings which can range from a classic “saddle” to an over-all “blanket.” Rarer colour variations include the sable, pure-black, pure-white, liver and blue varieties.
A good figurine should be able to show all these physical characteristics, and if in colour, all the markings on the coat should be shown.
Additionally, some services offer extras like:
– Name of your dog on the sculpture
(Arty Lobster engraves the name of your dog, at no extra charge, on the shiny brass base)
– Collars and dog tags
Your German Shepherd may have their favourite collar in a bright red for example. Truly customised statuettes can do this for you. Their dog tag may be in a special shape (e.g. bone shaped) and this can be depicted in the statue.
Using a variety of methods, you could get a miniature version of your or your friend’s beloved pet (see below).
What about crosses?
Mass produced figurines (see below) or not able to cater for the German Shepherd cross market so the best way forward is to get a unique, personalised sculpture.
Popular cross breeds that can easily be catered for are:
- Shug – German Shepherd x Pug (see pictures of our pug figurines)
- Shollie – German Shepherd x Collie (see pictures of our border collie figurines)
- Corman Shepherd – German Shepherd x Corgie
- Rottweiler Shepherd – German Shepherd x Rottweiler
- Shepadoodle – German Shepherd x Poodle (see pictures of our poodle figurines)
- Wolf Shepherd – German Shepherd x Wolf – wild!!!
- Shepkita – German Shepherd x Akita
- German Sheprador or the Labra Shepherd – German Shepherd x Labrador (see pictures of our labrador figurines)
- Golden Shepherd – German Shepherd x Golden Retriever (see pictures of our golden retriever figurines)
- Boxer Shepherd – German Shepherd x Boxer (see pictures of our boxer figurines)
Almost every dog is unique, and even if your German Shepherd cross is not on the list above, a good sculpture maker should be able to make a unique figurine for you which incorporates all the quirky characteristics of your dog.
What about unusual markings or other physical features?
Again the only way to have these depicted accurately is to have them done from scratch as ready-made models will not portray the unique qualities of your German Shepherd. Bronze statue will obviously be bronze in colour and carved stone statues are in the colour of the stone from which it is carved. Full colour 3D printed German Shepherds will show their physical attributes in all their glory.
When to get a German Shepherd sculpture?
Here are 3 occasions when you should get a sculpture
1. You have just got a puppy and you know it will not a puppy for too long!
2. You or your friend have a German Shepherd and you want to give them a unique and lasting gift.
3. You know a German Shepherd that has passed away
Sadly, this is when you might really like to have a statue when your dog is no longer with your friend.
How to get a German Shepherd sculpture?
This depends on what it is made of.
Many materials for sculpture creation are on offer in the UK. Bronze, plastic/resin, porcelain and stone are the top four materials. Bronze casting takes two forms, the “pure” cast being the most expensive (that’s where the sculptor uses a wax model with the heat resistant mould that is burned off when molten bronze is poured). Cold cast bronze which uses resin and powdered bronze and is the cheaper bronze method.
We have all seen porcelain figurines in the shops. These tend to be generic and mass-produced.
Stone statues are widely available and are suited to gardens.
Plastic is the lightest and cheapest material, and is usually mass-produced.
Figurines using the 3D method of production use the latest in technology and a few uploaded photos to create the miniatures with the exact characteristics of your dog. The colour of the collar and the dog tag can be personalised and the name of the dog will appear on the base. This would not be possible with figurines from other retailers.
How long does it take to get a German Shepherd sculpture?
This depends on where you get the statue and what it is made of.
A generic figurine can be delivered very quickly online from retailers like Amazon or department stores like John Lewis. They could be with you in a matter of days. A bronze cast will take 3 to 6 months to prepare. The local artist you commission will need the time to prepare moulds to get the statue right. In 4 to 6 weeks, a 3D sculpture creator can create your German Shepherd sculpture based on a few photographs and can be posted anywhere in the UK.
What can’t be captured in 3D colour miniature?
All the physical attributes, the colour of the collar, the shape of any unique dog tag, the name of the dog engraved on the shiny brass base… the only thing it won’t do is bark!
